Like the American Medical Association and virtually all professional medical and mental health organizations, Quest Recovery and Prevention Services defines alcoholism and other addictions as a chronic disease.

We believe that treatment and long-term recovery from the disease of addiction requires five main components:

  1. Total abstinence from all mood-altering substances
  2. Honesty as a guiding principle in treatment and life in general, including ongoing honesty with all doctors and other medical/mental health professionals to assure that all treatment and prescribed medications support ongoing recovery.
  3. Building a real-life social support system that encourages and upholds abstinence and recovery on an ongoing basis.
  4. The active participation of the client’s family and/or other significant others in treatment and ongoing recovery.
  5. The willingness of the client to not only attend treatment, but to make changes in his/her daily life to make recovery a permanent reality beyond the time of treatment.
